PROCEDURES AND EXPECTATIONS
CLASS SCHEDULE:
Students are assigned a Physical Education class period on an ACE (Monday & Wednesday) or BDF (Tuesday-Thursday) basis for the entire year. This scheduled class period is opposite the team "Flex" schedule. Each semester a schedule is established for which group (ACE or BDF) attends the Friday class period each week. Students unsure of whether their PE class meets on a given Friday are encouraged to plan for a "P.E." day! Being prepared for class is an important part of a student's success. Students may be required to make up classes if too many "unprepareds" occur.
CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS:
Students are required to change from their school clothes into clothing appropriate for physical activity in middle school Physical Education. This clothing should be loose fitting. Included might be shorts (without zippers), sweatpants, tee shirts, and sweatshirts. Sneakers designed for physical activity (not "fashion" or skateboarding sneakers) and socks must be worn. Students should not wear to school what they expect to also wear in Physical Education. If students have old sneakers that still have some use in them, we encourage their use for our outdoor classes. Watches, rings and large earrings or necklaces should be removed for class for the safety of the student.
LOCKER ASSIGNMENTS:
Each student is assigned a locker in the locker room. It is expected that the combination will be memorized and not shared with other students. This locker is provided for each student for Physical Education clothing and other personal items. We encourage students to have extra clothing (especially socks), and a container for safe storage of jewelry not allowed during class.
MEDICAL EXCUSES:
Should a student need to be excused from class due to illness or injury, a note must be provided by the parent or guardian. This note should be presented to the teacher at the beginning of class. Please state the nature of the injury and indicate any limitations necessary. This could be complete inactivity for the day or the need to be excused from a specific part of the class. A parent may excuse the student for the classes in a given week. If the injury or illness will require more than one week's duration, a doctor's note is necessary. The doctor should provide a note for the nurse and P.E. teacher, indicating how long the student must be out of class. If the doctor notice indicates "until further notice" a follow up note must be presented indicating that the student is able to resume activity.
GRADING:
Students receive a letter and effort grade each semester, with interim comments sent every five weeks as necessary. Grading is based on participation, effort, cooperation with classmates and teacher, skills, and written assessments.
