Online databases make it easy to find good quality information. You should use databases when you are looking for:
- Newspaper articles
- Magazine articles
- Encyclopedia articles
- Biographical information
- Statistical information
Internet vs. Databases?
Internet
- It has both good and bad information. You have to sort through it all to find the good information by evaluating websites for quality.
- Not all websites are made by experts. Anyone can publish to the web.
- Usually FREE...but sometimes free is not always good.
- Not very well organized
Databases
- Organized by specific types of information
- Good quality information - Facts are checked by many people.
- Most databases are NOT FREE. Most libraries pay for access to database information.
