The Wilson Reading Program is a multi-sensory phonetic based approach to reading created by Barabara Wilson that was first published in 1985.  It is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach and is targeted at assisting students struggling primarily in their word attack and identification skills.  This is a program that I frequently use with select students to supplement my instruction in the area of English Language Arts.

I recently completed my Level I certification with the Wilson Reading Program.  This involved on-line and seminar instruction, in addition to a minimum 60-lesson practicum.  Five teacher/student observations by a Wilson Trainer, were also required to complete the course. Level I certification is designed to prepare teachers to effectively implement Steps 1-6 of the Wilson Reading Program in order to assist learning disabled students reading and spelling below grade level.
